The race has begun! Your car is finely tuned and ready to roar across the countryside on this legendary thousand-mile race. If you can quickly gain a lead across a hundred miles, victory may seem assured, but in this race, new hazards are always just around the next bend of the road. You’ll need to combine speed, caution, and a deft hand at the wheel if you plan to finish first in Mille Bornes!
Mille Bornes is a classic card game of fast-paced racing fun for two to six players. You and each of your opponents are competitors in an epic thousand-mile race. As you drive, you’ll have to balance your time between playing Distance cards to advance your own mileage and playing Hazard cards to hinder your rival racers with flat tires, car malfunctions, or unexpected speed limits. Be cautious as you plan hazards for your opponent though—your target may just have a few unexpected tricks in store for you.
Speed Is Essential
Your turn in Mille Bornes is simple: you simply draw a card from the deck shared by all players and add it to your hand of six other cards. Then, you play any card from your hand, adding it to the appropriate stack, and your turn is complete. Of course, the cards that you can play from your hand can have a variety of uses and deciding which card to play and when to play it is a crucial aspect of the game.
Before you can play any card, you need to begin the race by playing a Drive card. If you don’t have a Drive card after you draw, you must simply discard a card and end your turn. Some players may quickly find Drive cards and get off to a good start, beginning to advance towards victory, but don’t worry! There will be plenty of opportunities for you to hinder the leader in his or her race towards victory.
